I love men.
But I figure I've had more potential mothers and sisters-in-law... than potential husbands.
Once in Queens, after I gave a comic lecture about my work, an elderly woman in the audience tenderly clasped my wrist, pressed her son's business card into my hand, and urged me to contact him. The fact that he's an organic banana farmer in Hawaii, while I happen to live in New York City, wasn't really the issue. |
| An artist in New Jersey still confides how she wishes I married her son, years and two children after I was the photographer at his very happy wedding. And a television reporter who came to do a news story about me, whipped out a wallet photo of her 39 year-old son in hopes of introducing us.
And of course, all of these were the real thing. TRUE LOVE! When a woman offers you her son (or a brother), you know SHE loves YOU. To offer a son! This is how straight women seriously flirt with each other. I know. Oh how I ached to fix-up my own dear brother with my best friend. Not that they would be such a perfect match... but because I would love to be related to her. |
